How PT Clinics Can Survive The COVID-19 Economy

Coronavirus is causing widespread effects on PT clinics beyond even health concerns. What’s more, private practices have taken the hardest hit of any other rehab business…

But success is possible! We have clients already returning to normal volume – some even to 110%!

Below are some tips on how you can get patient volume back to normal or above. Focus on these 3 areas:
1) Reassure your patients while you can still treat
2) Increase communication with patients & your community
3) Create your recovery plan so you don’t miss more time getting back up and running.

We know things are tough. We sincerely wish you all the best. And, we hope these tools will help you get back on track in the coming months:

Industry Impact & Advice:

Coronavirus Impact On PT/Rehab:

According to a recent survey by the APTA, volume is down in about 97% of physical therapy & rehab businesses. But, 2 areas have been hit the hardest:

  1. Privately Owned Practices – 65% of PTs in the private sector report a loss in income, higher than any other segment.
  2. Doctor Referrals – 97% of private clinics report a decline in referrals vs. just 81% reporting a decline in direct access.

One area that has BOOMED in all this is PT Telehealth. Some practices have tried it to stop the bleeding, but the more successful trend is clinics looking to implement telehealth as a permanent add-on service to boost revenue.

Expert Advice:

Practice owners need to focus on a few key actions during this time:

  • Look at your budget like a business owner. PT school didn’t teach you this, but it’s vital to your clinic. Take a few minutes to learn basic financial crisis strategies such as the Business Recovery Curve before making a budget cut.
  • Don’t rely on doctors. Referrals have dried up because of reduced caseloads and increased policy restrictions. You have to get your marketing message out to consumers directly.
  • Communicate MORE often. While your competitors are cutting back marketing out of fear, seize the chance to stand out with health & safety info on your website, social media, email, and other channels. Social media videos are a great thing to start doing as engagement rates have skyrocketed.
  • Recover Revenue with your past patient list. Filling your schedule with past patients is up to 10X cheaper than new patients. So use your Newsletters, postcard campaigns, email, & even phone calls to get your fan base back in the door.

She says “If you don’t invest, You don’t get anything back!” and credits her marketing team at Practice Promotions with helping make her successful during this time.

They began training with their Marketing Consultant for both a Print and Digital marketing.
